This morning I was up in time to see us sail into St. Lucia.. It is a beautiful lush Island and much cleaner than some of the Islands I've been on.  We were at the city os Castries which was founded in the mid 17th Century.

After we had our breakfast and put on walking shoes we departed the ship for a while to see what we could see. It of course is Sunday so the downtown stores were not open. At the cruise terminal we were bombarded with tour guides wanting to give us a tour. I have been here 2 or 3 times and had always taken a HAL tour. Hubby and the Jenning's didn't know what they wanted to do so we were winging it.

Priscilla & I had been looking around and mae up with the guys and once Priscilla found out we could have a Taxi tour for a couple of hours the boys lost out and awat we went.

Our taxi driver was Matthew, better known as St. Matthew for the first book of the New Testament.  He was really a great credit to his country, polite, friendly and very knowelageable; not just of Sy Lucia but the world. He was very much into ecology and the preservation of our resources.

Matthew was supposed to take us on a 2 hour tour but we ended up a little over 2 & a half hours for the same price he quoted us.  We stopped many times as he pointed out the different fruit and nuts. Took us to a great look off and warned us before we got there that there would be people selling jewellery and souneniers and either not buy or at least not to pay over $10.00.  That is the first time I've ever had tour guide tell us that.

Matthew took us to see one of the Islands College', of which there are 4.. He showed us the memorial where one of two from St Lucia had won the Nobel Prize.

From the Collage we went to a wood carving Art Studio. What beautiful work the Gentelman does. I believe his name was Eudouic. At least that was the name on the studio sign. This gentelman also teaches carving. He uses many different woods, even the root's from an extinct tree that used to grow on the Island I would have loved to have bought a piece, but I had left my credit card and nearly all of my money on board the ship.  Perhaps another time.

After the studio tour we were taken through farm land and shown more fruit trees and down in the valley where they grow Bananas for export; which goes to Europe..

Next we went to view Marigot Bay where Dr. Doolittle was mostly filmed as well as other movies.  Then a bit more sightseeing of his country and back to the ship. But before we reboarded we looked around some more at the cruise terminal and the only thing I bought was a little wooden frog which you can make some music on. I'll have to show it to a friend back home and I just know he will love making a "noise" with it.

After a light lunch in the Lido we went back to our staterooms and sat on our deck's and watched the harbour traffic. Might have had a nap in there sometime as well.

After dinner this evening we went to the showlounge to hear music by Billy Joel, Eleton John and Barry Manilow. Two male singers, and 3 female singers along with one dance couple did this performance. They picked about 5 or 6 pieces that each had written and performed. They were very good but oh I wish they didn't have the sound so deafening. I sat through some of it with my hands over my ears. Do the young sound technicians think that just because we are middle age or older that we are all deaf ?  Eric didn't make the show tonight as he left the dining room early as he was feeling a bit sea sick. It was a good job he wasn't there as he would have had to remove his hearing aids as I'm sure a must have.

We have travelled 1557 nauticle miles since we departed Fort Lauderdale. I see by yhe ships map that we have 1137.7 nauticle miles to travel to Macapa, Brizil. Our sea depth at the moment is 1640 meters.

Another sea day tomorrow. Also a Mariners luncheon, Bob received an invite but I didn't, perhaps mine will turn up over night., but then again they only left one pillow chocolate tonight. I hope they aren't trying to tell me something. We'll see tomorrow.🙂
