Approaching Bora Bora mid afternoon.

Bora Bora is a member of the Leeward Islands and is located 280 Klm',northwest of Tahiti at 16 45* W. It is a small island that covers only 38 square Klms.

Bora Bora was formed after many volcanic eruptions that began four million years ago and continued over hundreds of thousands of years. Since then the island has undergone a slow sinking movement. It's Lagoon is encircled by a wide coral reef that encloses several big motus with white sand beaches.

They export copra and vanilla. During the 2nd World War the island was brutally put into contact with the rest of the world and was forced to to host an American Base which brought 5000 American soldiers to the Island in Dec. 1942.  An aviation runway 2000 meters (6,562 ft.) long was built, 8 artillery guns were installed and 30 fuel storage facilities were built. But the retreat of the Japanese left Bora Bora free from comat and the Americans left the Island in 1946.

Now approximately 90,000 visitors on average each year visit this magnificent lagoon. No wonder as this is such a beautiful place.

This morning we went to the Showroom at Sea to view a behind the strings presentation by Philip Huber and his Marionettes. He even had a few puppet's out today that he didn't show last night. Then we went to the Dive In for a lunch of a nicely done juicy hamburger with all the fixings you want and a beer to wash it down.

After that we went out to the Lido Pool Aft for a Sail In Party to kick off our Bora Bora adventure. Sydney and the Hal Cats were playing and there was a special Bora Bora Brew Cocktail for $5.00, very tastey.

Tonight at dinner Bob received the recipe for the Vegtable Pot Pie that he really liked one night for dinner. The waiters were kind enough to get it for him, so now i'll have to make it when we get home. It serves 10 so I guess i will have some calculating to do or else have a housefull of guests.

In the Showroom at Sea tonight was Jeff De Hartwho is a comedian and impressionist. After we came back to our cabin we went out on deck to look over at the island and there were fishermen fifhing right along side of us.

Tomorrow we will go ashore and view this beautiful island close up.
