Sorry for being late but I keep getting kicked off. We were anchored off of Devils Island after we sailed around all three of the French Guiana Islands. Isle Royale, St Josephs and Devils Island.
WE actually toured Isle Royale which is where the main prison was.
We tendered over to the Island and it was very hot out and I had forgotten to take my puffer with me for asthema so I told the
rest to go ahead and i would thake my time. as it was, when I met up with them I had seen monkeys and Hummingbirds that they hadn't. So it pays to take your time and look around.
There was a
very steep climb up the hill to where all the buildings were. Actually there was three ways up, one very uneven and steep steps. another almost as steep with cobblestones and the third was a roadway which was also steep and uneven.
We passed a childrens cemetary on the way up hill. Saw many more monkeys, although these were a bit smaller. They were playing in the trees, under the trees and just having a good time and we were all enjoying watching them.
We saw the main prison buildings, the Commandant's house, Lighthouse, the Chapel, Hotel & Reservoir, the Hospitol and many other buildings.. The government is now trying to restore it. A lot os the prison
area is in very bad shape. Prisoners were ent to solitary confinement to St Joseph. Devils Island it seelf housed a butchery. The Islands were surrounded by shark infested waters, therefore prisoners could not escape or they would be eaten by sharks.
I have tried to put my photos on but I'll have to do them later as they will not load, everythings just too slow today, so come back later to see them.
